Turbo Hose Trouble
Diagnosing a boost hose that had worked loose and checking the black smoke that followed.
What happened
The van developed a problem around the turbo/boost hose. The replacement hose appeared to start working loose, so the first job was checking the connection and making sure it was seated correctly.
What I noticed
There was also some black smoke when revving the engine. That made it important to distinguish between leftover residue from the previous hose issue and an ongoing boost or fuelling problem.
Next checks
- Inspect the hose and retaining clips again after a few journeys.
- Look for fresh oil mist around the joint.
- Monitor smoke under load rather than only when stationary.
